A few things, made clear.
Terms of use
A local app. A one-time purchase. Here is what to expect when you use Bison, and what stays in your hands.
Last updated Bison for Mac
One-time purchase
No Bison subscription or recurring app fee.
Your data is yours
Using Bison does not transfer ownership of your work.
Your rights remain
Mandatory consumer protections still apply.
About these terms
These terms describe the use of Bison, a native MongoDB client for macOS provided by the operator identified below. Bison is currently in development and is not yet available to purchase. This page describes the planned release; it is not an offer to take payment today.
Bison runs on your Mac and connects to databases you configure. It does not provide database hosting, a cloud workspace, or a backup service. The Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.
By downloading, installing, or using Bison, you agree to these terms and to the license that governs your copy. If you do not agree, do not use Bison.
Your license
The public release is planned for the Mac App Store. A copy obtained there is licensed under Bison’s License Agreement, which the App Store shows with the app and which you accept when you get it. This page explains Bison’s use and purchase arrangements; it does not replace that license or expand its restrictions, and if the two differ, the License Agreement governs your copy.
Use the app on devices and in ways permitted by your applicable license and the store’s usage rules, including any sharing rights those rules provide. Open-source components retain their own licenses; notices are available in the app’s Acknowledgements.
Bison’s software, name, and artwork remain the property of their respective owners. Your database content, queries, exports, and dashboard files remain yours or the property of their existing rights holders.
Purchase & refunds
The planned price is $29.99 USD, paid once, with no Bison subscription or recurring app fee. The final amount, currency, and applicable taxes are the ones displayed by the Mac App Store when you purchase. Optional database hosting and AI services may charge their own fees.
Apple handles billing for App Store purchases. You can request a refund through Apple’s refund process; eligibility depends on the circumstances and applicable consumer law. These terms do not remove any statutory refund or other consumer rights.
A one-time purchase does not by itself promise every future separately sold product, feature, or major upgrade. Any additional paid offering would be clearly identified before purchase.
Using Bison responsibly
Use Bison only with databases, systems, and information you own or have permission to access. You are responsible for following applicable law, your organization’s policies, and the terms of your database and other service providers.
Do not use Bison to obtain unauthorized access, bypass another party’s access controls, or unlawfully obtain, alter, or disclose information. Choose database credentials and app permissions appropriate for the work you intend to perform.
Your data & backups
Bison can run commands that change or permanently delete data. Review the target connection, query, script, and confirmation before proceeding. Read-only modes, production warnings, and approval prompts help you control operations, but they do not replace reviewing a command or maintaining backups.
You are responsible for backups, recovery procedures, and the accuracy and legality of the work you perform. Test unfamiliar operations on suitable sample data first. Bison’s developer has no remote copy of your workspace and cannot restore a database or file that you delete.
Using the app does not grant us a license to publish, sell, or train models on your database content.
AI & third-party services
You decide whether to enable Bison’s optional MCP interface and connect an AI client. Review the client’s permissions and privacy settings, including whether it sends data to an external model provider. You remain responsible for the operations you authorize, including operations proposed by an agent.
AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for a production database. Review generated queries and proposed writes before executing or approving them.
MongoDB hosts, SSH servers, AI clients, and model providers are independent services. Their availability, charges, retention practices, and terms are controlled by their operators. Bison is not affiliated with or endorsed by MongoDB, Apple, or the third-party products mentioned on this website.
Updates & availability
The current target is macOS 15 or later on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Features and supported systems may change as the app develops. Check the store listing and release notes for the version you install.
Updates for the App Store edition are distributed through the Mac App Store. We do not promise compatibility with every database deployment, third-party service, or future operating-system version, or a particular schedule for new features. This does not limit any update or support obligations required by applicable law.
Use at your own risk
You use Bison at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bison is provided “as is” and “as available”, with all faults and without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that Bison will be free of errors or interruptions, that it will work with every database, server version, configuration, or network, or that query results, counts, exports, explain output, schema samples, or AI-generated content will be accurate or complete. Confirmations, read-only connections, production warnings, and agent permissions reduce the chance of mistakes; they are not a guarantee that every mistake will be caught.
Bison works directly on the databases you connect it to. Commands you run, confirm, or allow an AI client to run take effect on those databases and may be impossible to undo. You alone decide what to run and are responsible for its consequences, including keeping current backups before you change data, especially production data.
Bison is not designed or intended for use where a failure or error could lead to death, personal injury, or serious physical, environmental, or financial harm. Do not rely on it as the only safeguard for such systems.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither Aleksandr Shelestov PR JustOneDev nor its contractors or suppliers will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss or corruption of data, database downtime, cost of recovering data or obtaining substitute services, loss of profits, revenue, business, or goodwill, or business interruption, whatever the legal theory and even if we were advised that such damages were possible, arising out of or related to:
- your use of, or inability to use, Bison;
- queries, scripts, edits, deletions, index changes, exports, or other operations you run or confirm;
- operations proposed, requested, or run by an AI client you connect to Bison;
- databases, SSH servers, AI clients, model providers, and other third-party services; or
- unauthorized access to your Mac, your credentials, or your databases.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to Bison is limited to the amount you paid for your copy of Bison or US$50, whichever is greater. For a copy obtained from the Mac App Store, the warranty and liability terms of the license that governs it also apply.
If you use Bison in breach of these terms or the law, for example to access a database without permission, you are responsible for the resulting claims by third parties against us, to the extent the law allows. If you use Bison for a business, these limits apply to the fullest extent permitted for business users.
Your rights
The limits in sections 08 and 09 apply only as far as the law allows. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for intentional misconduct or gross negligence, and nothing affects a right, remedy, or warranty you have under mandatory consumer law, including statutory guarantees that the app conforms to its description. Some places do not allow certain exclusions or limits, so some of them may not apply to you.
These terms do not add a mandatory arbitration requirement or a waiver of consumer rights. Contact us if the app does not work as described.
Ending use & changes
You can stop using Bison at any time. If you uninstall it, retain any files you need and remove local app data, exports, and credentials separately where appropriate. Uninstalling does not undo changes made to a database.
License termination is governed by the agreement applicable to your copy and by law. We do not operate a Bison account that you need to close.
We may revise this page to reflect releases or changes to how Bison is offered. We will update its date and give appropriate notice of material changes. Revisions do not retroactively remove rights attached to an earlier purchase; any new acceptance required by law will be obtained.
